Walsh, 5 George St Euston Rd, London, gold pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, free-sprung balance with duo-in-uno hairspring, and 30-hour winding indicator, 52mm, heavy 18K gold original HC bearing London hallmarks for 1864, casemaker's "A.S" in oval cameo, gold cuvette engraved "William P. Robinson, James White, Edmund P. Martin, to George F. Nesbitt 1865," white enamel DS dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), spring detent escapement with capped escape wheel, free-sprung balance with diamond endstone and duo-in-uno hairspring, 14-15J, gilt mvt, s#299 with matching serial number to dial and within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 87.7 dwt (136.4 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, will tick briefly with a twist, winding indicator function untested, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, main plate with some micro-fine scratches and with some mild overall ultra-fine scratch striations from past light wiping(s), table of balance cock with small raised mark, some scattered fine scratches and small dings; nearly flawless dial with pinpoint surface nick near edge at 8; excellent hands; case shows light wear, no dents or dings, engine turning detail substantially reduced around front shoulder and fully lost around rear shoulder, rear hinge missing one end-cap, case front lift springs needing assistance to open front lid, cuvette frequently catches within upper lip of inner rear if lids are closed together; tight bow, push shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
